Pumpkin pie spice is a blend of “warm” spices, generally including some or all of the following: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, allspice, mace. There are indeed a lot of pie recipes out there that call for pumpkin pie spice, but there are probably as many where the recipe writer specifies a particular mix of individual spices. A good mix will transform an otherwise bland pumpkin pie to a rich and interesting dessert. Don’t stop at pumpkin pie though; use this blend in sweet potato pie, cakes, cookies and custards. There are pumpkin pie spice blends available commercially but you can also easily make your own. Here are a few variations:
Pumpkin Pie Spice Recipe 1
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup cinnamon
- 4 teaspoons ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon mace
Preparation: Mix all the spices. Use immediately or store in an aritight container away from light.

- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
